Luke 23:34

Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.' And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Understanding this passage

On the cross, Jesus prayed for the people killing Him. Forgiveness was His first word in suffering, not a last thought after He cooled down.

Why this verse helps

If anyone had a right to rage, it was Jesus. His prayer shows that forgiveness is possible even when the wound is still happening.

A prayer for you

Father, give me Jesus' heart. Help me forgive those who have hurt me. Amen.
