Understanding this passage
Peter could not make sense of Jesus washing his feet. Jesus did not explain everything immediately; understanding came later.
Why this verse helps
Not getting it yet is not the same as being abandoned. Jesus allows a gap between now and later understanding.

Jesus, I do not realize now what You are doing. Help me trust You until I understand. Amen.
