1 John 1:8–10

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Understanding this passage

John will not let you fake innocence, and he will not leave you in shame either. Confession meets a God who is faithful to forgive and cleanse.

Why this verse helps

Guilt that hides only grows. This verse gives the honest way out: confess, and God really does forgive and purify.

A prayer for you

Lord, I confess my sin. You are faithful and just. Forgive me and purify me. Amen.
